One of my training program past attendees told me he really enjoyed the recordings of calls that I play at training programs and said they are incorporating them into their own training. He sent in this prospecting voice mail that his boss had received. Take a listen and see how many mistakes the caller makes in just a short period of time. Then, share your comments below.
This type of call is one of the reasons it is tougher than ever to reach decision makers. People receive so many horrible voice mails that they barely listen to most, already going into them with a negative mindset. That’s precisely why, that to be successful and even have a chance, you need to place SMART calls, where you avoid the common mistakes that most “cold” callers commit in the first seconds of a call, and instead, use your Smart Call intelligence in a proven process to create interest.
And that is what we cover in the Know More! Cold Calling webinar I’m doing with Sam Richter on June 10-11. Get complete info and sign up now!

Any cold call is horrible. It is the has the lowest possibility of turning in to something of value for the sales person and it makes us look desperate. It doesn’t even matter what words you use.
It sounds like this “Christmas gift” is something that I really don’t want. I wouldn’t feel very important to them, because they said that the local rep could “stop by” between seeing clients. Most importantly, they don’t know what I need or want. They have not qualified me as a viable prospect.
Art,
You have posted some terrible calls, but this is one of your best of the worst! Where to start: length of message, poor verbal skills (didn’t always understand what he was saying), “We have no reason to call you at this time …” (one of my favorites), “… leave a wealth of information” (does this mean a lot?), “If you’re busy … she’ll show hersself the door …. but please let her introduce herself” (let’s just do this right from the start); and finally “Your Christmas gift from us.” Keep sharing Art … great stuff.
I don’t really feel so badly about some of my cold calls now, after listening to this. I think I may have actually dozed off briefly! If I had been on the receiving end of this call, I am not sure if I would have hung up or started laughing. A call to learn from!
Wow, my eyes are glazed over. Much too long, scripted, poorly scripted at that. I’m sure I didn’t understand half of what he said…spoke too fast. I’m feeling better about myself right now. I agree with Jennifer…”no reason to call you at this time..” so why call? I would have deleted this in 5 seconds.
After about 10 seconds I stopped caring what the agent had to say, that flat tone and waffle of words being used. A great example of a terrible voicemail.
If this man had training, fire the trainer….If he did’nt, sell your stock. Sad to think this was a real sales call. Sad also, to think this poor soul may not have known how much damage he did and worst of all, how many calls will he make during the “whole day”.

Poor guy…..he is the past mayor of
Crazy Town.
There is someone about to become another statistic in the changing business climate. Hopefully sooner than later.

Oh my goodness…though I’ve never sounded that bad, I know I have blundered by blabbering.
OMG!!
I really hope me voicemails are no where near this bad. Am buying a voice recorder immediately just to make sure.
